Things that will make your Family Session Even Better

Types of clothes to wear and grooming (Just suggestions/ideas):

  • Mom- Have your eyebrows waxed or threaded at least two days before your shoot.
  • Do NOT get a facial anywhere near your portrait date.  They are very abrasive and people tend to break out for about a week afterwards.
  • Simple jewelry is best.
  • Dad - Have a fresh shave or trim, and use a new razor with moisturizing shaving cream to limit bumps and redness.
  • Make sure nails are clean and trimmed.
  • Moms and Dads-Have your hair colored and/or cut about a week before (if it needs it).  It takes a few days for color to oxidize and look its best and haircuts need a few days to relax.
  • Drink tons of water and try to get quality sleep.  :)
  • Exfoliate lips with a toothbrush or face exfoliator every day starting at least the week before.  No one like chapped lips in their pictures.
  • Form fitting shirts/dresses with interesting/flattering necklines in complimentary colors that bring out your eyes.
  • Layering is a nice touch.  Sweater/vest over button down/ cardigan or scarf...
  • Clothes with texture.
  • Clothes darker than your skin tone.
  • Make sure you have no stains or rips in your clothing.
  • You don’t have to perfectly match the rest of the family, just wear something that coordinates.  Wearing the same color family or tone looks great.
  • Wear fashionable yet comfortable shoes..we will likely be walking around and playing during most of the session.
  • Kids – Same advice as above, but again, everything needn’t match, simply coordinate with the parents’ outfits. If Dad’s in a T-shirt, don’t have your child wear a dress shirt.  Stay away from logos and loud prints.
Be prepared to play and have fun!!!
